NHTI In Concord NH Will Host the Wheelchair Basketball Fundraiser Game
The Wheelchair Basketball game is held each year to raise money and awareness for the Zech DeVits Memorial Equipment Fund. Proceeds from this event help provide NHTI students access to assistive technologies and equipment so they can be successful in school and be prepared for all that life has to offer.
The 17th Annual Wheelchair Basketball Game will take place on Monday, November 4th. Four NHTI Teams and Four Community Teams will be playing for bragging rights and a good cause. Each game is 10 minutes long so it is a quick way to give back.
Admission is free. Concessions by donation. Lots of great raffle items that could be yours
The event is organized by the NHTI Accessibility Services Office, Athletics, Wellness, Alumni & Development, and Alternative Spring Break Club, along with our partners, Granite State Independent Living and the NH Spinal Cord Injury Association.
Zech DeVits Wheelchair Basketball Game
The first wheelchair benefit evolved as part of an education course project, in which students raised funds to help refurbish NHTI student Zech DeVits’ wheelchair-accessible van. Born with gigantism, a rare genetic condition and skeletal dysplasia, Zech had used a wheelchair since age six, yet never let that limit him or his dreams of helping others. Despite his towering 7’8” frame and large features, Zech quickly became a beloved role model on campus. Unfortunately, Zech DeVits, died in 2005, just weeks before graduating from NHTI with an Associate Degree in Addiction Counseling..
